DISEASES OF THE ENT
(A) CATARRH, CORYZA & SNEEZING There are generally two kinds of cold i.e hot catarrh and cold catarrh in Unani system of medicine. However, according to the updated information in the mucous membrane of nose and throat gets inflamed due to the bacterial impact and viral attack resulting in flowing of catarrhal secretion from nose or dropping in throat. The running of nose is called coryza while secretion flowing in throat is named as catarrh.The children are caught by mild cold and cough with fever prior to measles, mumps and smallpox like viral diseases. 44 generally patient becomes lethargic having complaints of headache and body ache with fever. Nose becomes running and complains of cough with throat irritation.

AYUSH Joshanda: 
Govt. of India approved formulation for enhancing immune system against respiratory tract infections. It is used in viral infections of upper respiratory tract as well as Covid-19.Directions: Take ½ tea spoon in a cup of water and boiled, filter and use with jaggery, Honey or any other sweetener or as directed by the physician.

Barshasha:This medicine is extremely useful in catarrh, coryza, cough of nerves, colic pains, melancholia and insomnia.
Directions: 1/4 to 1g to be taken mixed in 5g Khamira Gaozaban Ambri.

Daya Qooza:Useful in catarrh and dry cough.Directions: 10g to be taken with water in the morning or at bed time.

Habbe-e-Surfa:It is useful in dry cough and sore throat.Directions: Advise to suck two pills at the time of paroxysm of cough.

Joshanda (Packet): Very useful herbal formula to get rid from cold, catarrh, sneezing, cough & sore throat like problems.
Directions: Boil the contents in 200ml water & then filter it. Add sugar according to taste & drink it by sipping.

Joshanda Concentrate:45This concentrate is prepared by obtaining obtaining the extract of a renowned Unani prescription (Joshanda) herbs and is extremely very useful in treating cold, coryza and cough etc.Directions: One pouch to be mixed with lukewarm water and later on to be taken by sipping like a tea.

Khamira-e- Banafsha :It is beneficial in all types of fevers, catarrh, Coryza, Cough and diseases of the chest.
Directions: 10 to 20g to be taken with 125 ml water or Arq Badiyan.

Khamira-e-Khashkhash:Useful in Catarrh, Coryza and Cough induces sleep also.
Directions: 5 to 10g of this Khamira to be taken with water at bedtime.

Kushta Marjan Sada : It is useful in cold and cough and strengthens the heart and brain.Directions: For good result use 60mg with Khamera Gaozuban Sada two times a day or as directed by the physician.
Directions: 10 to 20ml to be taken with warm water or as directed by the physician.

Kushta/Qurs Marjan Sada/Jawahar Wala:It is useful in cold, catarrh and cough, strengthens the brain and heart.
Directions: To be taken in the morning along with 10g of Khamira Gawzaban Ambari on empty stomach.

Lauq Motadil:It is useful in catarrh, coryza and cough, Removes the dryness from air passage.
Directions: 10-10g of this Lauq to be licked in the morning and evening.

Lauq Nazli:46Relives from catarrh, coryza and cough. Removes the dryness from air passage.Directions: 10-10g of this Lauq to be licked in the morning and evening.

Mufeed Joshanda : Useful in Catarrh infection, Coryza, Cold cough and sore throat like problems.
Directions: Take 200ml of water and put the contents in and than filter and add honey, sugar or jaggery and drink it by sipping or as directed by the physician.

Sharbat Nazli Khas : Useful in catarrh , cough , coryza , breathing problems and dry cough.

Sharbat Nazil Khas:It is useful in catarrh, cough, respiratory problems, and dryness of lungs.Directions: 10ml of this syrup to be taken mixed in a little water.

Tiryaq Nazla:Checks Catarrh and gives relief to cough, prolong use removes chronic catarrh.
Directions: 5-10g to be taken with 50ml Arq Gaozaban.

Note: Besides the above mentioned medicines, Itrifal ustkhuddoos, Kushta Marjan Jawahar wala and Lauq Sapistan may also be used

B) DEAFNESS AND TINNITUS

Due to brain weakness, impacted cerumen of prominence in the ear, blocking due to foreign body in the ear, results in deafness (It is necessary to sort out these problems before the initiation of treatment). Ears get tinnitus due to drugs toxic effects on earnerves. Anaemia and lack of blood circulations (sclerosis) in the membrane of ear also cause tinnitus.

Itrifal Sagheer: It is useful in brain diseases. A good brain tonic and improves memory. apart from this, it is also useful in piles.Direction: 5 to 10g to be taken with warm water at bed time.

Roghan Samaat Kusha:Mostly after high fever or prolonged fever or other infections. The hearing sensations become diminish or patient feel some muscial sounds. Use this oil will give relieve.
Direction: 2 to 3 lukewarm drops of oil to be installed in the ear two times a day or as directed by the physician.

(C) EPISTAXIS

The weaker people lacking calcium in their blood remain to suffer from chronic catarrh and intestinal worms. Those having cardiac and kidney diseases or dengue fever are very prone to epistaxis.Sometimes rise in blood pressure also leads to epistaxis.

Jawarish Amla Sada:Strengthens heart, brain and stomach. Stops Bilious diarrhoea. Decreases liver heat. It is useful in Gaseous distension and palpitation as emblica officinalis (Amla) contains vitamin ‘C’ in its natural form, which checks hemorrhage. The use of this Jawarish may be useful in epistaxis.
Direction: 5g of this Jawarish to be taken with 50ml Arq Gaozaban.

(D) INFLAMMATION OF UVLA & TONSILLITIS

Catarrhal secretion begins to flow in throat. Due to catarrh and coryza internal part of throat and its mucous membrane becomes inflamed and red . The surrounding glands, specially, tonsils also 48become inflames. Sometimes they get inflamed due to infection and pus formation due to which patient becomes febrile and feels difficulty in routine eating and drinking and cough develops.

Itrifal Ghudadi:It is useful in scrafulia and lymph glands of neck’s swelling.
Directions: 10g to be taken in the night with lukewarm water.

Sharbat Toot Siah:Removes sore throat, pain and inflammation.
Directions: 20ml to be taken in the morning or lick like linctus several times a day.

Tonsilex:It is useful in most complaints of the throat like tonsillitis, sore throat, ulceration in throat and tonsillitis.
Directions: Apply with cotton swab 2-3 times in a day. In addition to it, advise to gargle with a small quantity of warm water mixed 1/2 spoon of this medicine.
Note: Besides this, Lauq Sapistan, khansoleen jadeed and Khansyrup may also be used.

(E) LARYNGITS AND HOARSENESS OF VOICE

When catarrhal and coryzal secretions fall in throat and effect larynx & vocal cords, they get inflamed resulting in pain and hoarseness of voice. Sometimes voice diminishes and disappears. Excess use of sour and chilled items may give rise to this complaint.

Daoodi:Useful in sore throat and hoarseness of voice.
Directions: Advice to suck 1-1 pill in the morning & evening.

Laooq-e-Sapistan: Acts as an expectorant and relieves cough. It is useful in catarrh and cough.49
Direction: 10g to be taken with Lukewarm Arq Gaozaban 125ml.Note: Apart from the above mentioned medicines, Sharbat Toot Siyah, Khansyrup, Khansoleen and Lauq Badam are also useful medicines. 

(F) MUMPS

The glands in front of ear or in the back get swollen and become tender. It causes high fever. Neck and face look inflamed which divert to testicles while in case of girls it diverts to fallopian tubes and very owing to which the effected once are likely unable to conceive issues in future. In this respect, Itrifal Shahtra and Khoonseer are used orally while Roghan Surkh is applied locally.

(G) OTALGIA AND OTORRHOEA

Inflammation, boil, tympanic perforation and pus in the ear cause pain. Sometimes it occurs due to trauma on the ear. Boil in the middle ear and itching etc. Pus in the internal part of the ear and damaging of ear membrane results in discharge from the ear, Owing to which internal ear bones may be damaged. it is important to keep ear neat, clean and dry
